The City of Winsted is a growing community that is keeping the small town
flavor that is uniquely Winsted.
In 1866, Fritz and Sarah Elmer Moy left their Waconia dwelling to
settle in Winsted. At that time, the only house available was a one-room
building that trailblazer James Baird had occupied previously.
Of course, housing availability has changed in Winsted due to a steady
but slow growth and a stable economy. This rural community has
successfully meshed an agricultural setting with industrial growth.
The 2000 census reported a 32 percent growth for Winsted’s population
and the number of individuals living in town at 2,094. With its community
expanding, housing has become one of the city’s top priorities.
The city’s most recent housing development addition, Grass Lake Farm,
will be home to more than 70 families. The first family moved in July
2003, and many more have since followed.
The development is located on the western edge of the city, south of
Main Avenue West.
A view of Winsted Lake is easy to find at Winsted on the Lake. Located
on the northeast side of the lake, this development offers townhomes, twin
homes, and villas.
